In a few years’ time, BMW will have a new family member in the form of a flagship model that sits above the current 7 Series limousine. Most reports talk about BMW reviving the 8 series moniker, and that actually makes sense. However, we still could not confirm if that’s what it is going to be called. “I’ve decided for this project to approach it in the same way BMW would re-visit their classic carsâ€, Mouton says. “Perhaps a bit more conservative than what the BMW designers would come up with, but I tried to retain the magic of the original as best I could. Elements like the pop-up headlights is so part of the original that it simply had to appear on this design study.â€
BMW has in fact registered for 825 to 830, 835, 845, 850 badges already. Even the M850 and the M8, which is a very exciting preview of what the future beholds. This new fleet is made possible because of BMWs decision to make the current 6 Series more athletic and slimmer.
Being above the 7 Series, it will take on the position of BMW’s new flagship model. It needs to have more advanced technology that the 7 Series and it also need to surpass the level of luxury that this car already offers. That’s a tough thing to do but let’s see if BMW lives up to the expectations.
Insider information reveal that BMW already has two different layout ideas for the upcoming 8 Series. Both of the designs are in review of BMW CEO Harald Krueger. Rumor has it that one of the layouts is similar to the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe but bigger and more luxurious.
