Difficult Race for BMW Team RLL in Laguna Seca

It was quite a difficult race for BMW Team RLL at the two-hour Continental Monterey Grand Prix held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The team did the best they could and finished ninth and tenth in the GTLM class.

The number 25 BMW M6 GTLM that finished ninth was driven by Bill Auberlen (US) and Dirk Werner (DE). It crossed the line just 1.256 seconds ahead the other BMW Team RLL’s number 100 car. It came in tenth place and was co-driven by John Edwards (US) and Lucas Luhr (DE).

The two cars was able to complete the 78 laps of the race. It was 2.238-miles long with 11-turns and had to be completed in 120 minutes. Taking control of the Laguna Seca circuit is the number 67 Ford GT. It was co-driven by Ryan Briscoe (AU) and Richard Westbrook (GB).

For the GTD race, the number 96 BMW M6 GT3 was commanded by BMW works driver Jens Klingmann (DE) and Bret Curtis (US). This Turner Motorsport car secured a spot in fifth place. Finishing the race at 12th place is another Turner Motorsport car co-driven by Markus Palttala (FI) and Michael Marsal (US).

Team Principal of BMW Team RLL, Bobby Rahal, was disappointed about the race results. They face a hurdle in trying to set up a new tire but wasn’t able to figure out the correct configuration given the limited time. The next stop for BMW Team RLL is the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen race in July. They will be immediately heading out to Watkins Glen International to run two tests as preparation for this race. They want to eliminate all kinds of technical difficulties so they can deliver better results for the next race.

The drivers Auberlen, Werner, Edwards and Luhr also felt disappointed at the results and admitted that they had a difficult weekend. However, they are not discouraged. In fact, they are more fuelled to get a win for the team in the next races.
