BMW has revamped the X2, transforming it from a compact crossover to a sophisticated coupé SUV. This step fills the gap left by the soon-to-be-discontinued X4. The new X2 boasts enhanced dimensions and advanced technology. The X1 inspires the dashboard with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch infotainment display, all seamlessly integrated into a curved panel. Physical buttons are primarily replaced by controls on the suspended centre tunnel, creating more space beneath.
An innovative clip secures your phone while it charges wirelessly, reducing distractions. The displays offer excellent resolution and responsiveness, with customizable home screen widgets. Over-the-air updates keep the system current, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included. However, climate control and seat heating are only accessible via touchscreen, which can be distracting.
The interior reflects BMW’s commitment to quality, combining leather and aluminium with strategically placed stiffer plastics. Furthermore, the floating centre tunnel adds aesthetic appeal and practicality with additional storage space. Front seat occupants enjoy ample space, while rear passengers must navigate the coupé-style roof. Despite this, rear legroom, headroom, and foot space remain adequate. The central tunnel features air vents, USB-C sockets, and a small storage area.
The boot offers above-average space for its class, with a 560-litre capacity that reduces to 515 litres in mild hybrid models due to the battery pack. It includes a well-finished compartment with useful organizational features and a 40-20-40 split for the second-row seats. The new BMW X2 combines style, advanced technology, and practical space in a sleek, coupé SUV design.
