It is quite amazing that one of the most exciting premieres that happened this year at Pebble Beach was a car that was built almost 60 years ago. Truly, the 1957 BMW 507 Roadster owned by Elvis Presley is a testament to the timeless beauty of BMW cars. Now the car is coming home to California.
In his video, Hans-Joachim Stuck, the son of one of the greatest and boldest pilots ever to drive a BMW, talks about how he is related to this car. Turns out that if it weren’t for the Stuck family, Elvis would not have owned this car. In fact, Elvis actually fell in love with the 507 when he saw Stuck racing it. He then called the company and bought the exact car that he saw Stuck driving.
Another important person in the history of this 507 is Jack Castor. Castor is a car collector bought a run-down BMW 507 for $1,500 many years ago and attempted to restore it. He didn’t even know that it belonged to Elvis at that time.
It was from his garage that BMW found the car and immediately started the project of bringing back its former glory. It was finished just in time for the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Castor wanted the car restored and showcased to the public so that many people would smile upon seeing it. However, Castor was not able to witness how the crowd loved the car because he died a few months after handing over the car to BMW.
