Exclusive Look: BMW iX1 eDrive25L Unveiled in China

Stepping into the future of automotive luxury, the BMW iX1 eDrive25L, revealed at the prestigious Auto Shanghai 2023, is not just another car—it’s a statement. Exclusively crafted for the discerning Chinese market, this long-wheelbase variant of the BMW X1/iX1, nicknamed U12, is a masterpiece of engineering and design.

Assembled with precision at the Shenyang plant, this larger-than-life compact crossover stretches to 4616 mm, outstripping its global counterpart by a significant 116 mm. This extra space is smartly invested into the wheelbase, now boasting 2802 mm, catering to the local preference for spacious and luxurious rides.

In a nod to the Chinese trend of upsizing prestigious models, the U12 mirrors the success of BMW’s earlier long-wheelbase models like the X5. Despite its grandeur, the U12 maintains the width and height of the global X1, creating a familiar yet enhanced silhouette.

Available in two elegant trims, X and M, it offers a choice between a zippy three-cylinder sDrive20Li powertrain and a more robust sDrive25Li variant. With its turbocharged 1.5-litre engine, the former promises a spirited 154 hp and a torque of 230 Nm.

Those seeking a surge of power can opt for the sDrive25Li, featuring a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that churns out 201 hp and 300 Nm of torque, translating to a swift 7.9-second acceleration to 62 mph. The xDrive version shaves off a few more seconds for the thrill-seekers, albeit with a marginally lower top speed.

As for the pricing, the sDrive20Li starts at an alluring $42,000, while the xDrive25Li, with its enhanced capabilities, is available from $51,000. The BMW iX1 eDrive25L is more than just a vehicle; it’s a luxurious journey redefined for the modern era
