[Exclusive] First look at the new BMW M2 Competition’s Engine

These exclusive photos from Beijing gives is the first real life look at the engine of the new BMW M2 Competition. This is a modified version of the same S55 engine that’s found in the BMW M3 and M4 which is codenamed S58. It is a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine that delivers 410 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. It does make a bit less power than the standard M3 but the same amount of torque.

This twin-turbo engine is mated to a six-speed manual as-standard. However, a seven-speed DCT is also available. Either transmission sends its power to the rear wheels, with an electronically-controlled limited-slip differential dividing up the power between each rear wheel. That electronic M Differential is the same basic unit you’ll find in the M3/M4 but it’s been tweaked for M2 Competition duty.

BMW claims that the BMW M2 Competition will get from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds with the rapid-shifting DCT. It also has a limited top speed of 155 mph but that can be increased to 174 mph with the optional M Driver’s Pack.
