The photos below is the best look so far of the new G31 BMW 5 Series Touring. The photos are indeed very revealing since it shows a car that has very little camouflage left. Check out its very muscular bonnet, rear spoiler and some visible bodywork panels!
Unfortunately, we cannot make out the front bumper, rear-most window, and front fender air outlets from these photos. However, there a bit of hint of how it make look like if you look closely on the camo.
Rumor has it that the car’s revealing may happen next month at the Paris Auto Show. However, it is unlikely that they will launch it together with the Sedan version. The ideal launch sequence would be the new 5-Series GT first, followed by the Sedan, and then the Touring. So, we may have to wait until next year to see this in the flesh.
The car is built on the same platform as the 7-Series which allows to to be 100kg lighter than its predecessor. A lot of lightweight materials will be used in production such as carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP).
The engine range will likely be the same as the Saloon. A 2.0-liter B47 diese, B48 gasoline four-cylinders, 3.0-liter B57 diesel, B58 gasoline straight-six turbo units, and an upgraded 4.4-liter petrol V8 are in the pipeline. The PHEV version will be powered by the 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain that’s already on the 330e, 740e and X5 xDrive40e. It is also possible for the M550d performance diesel to get electrically driven turbochargers.
