High Demand for BMW 6 Series GT Secures Its Market Stay

The BMW 6 Series GT is one of the largest in the BMW lineup of bizarre-looking cars. Its design, thanks to the new obsession of BMW for big grilles, is certainly more defined than ever. But it’s still a strange car, especially with its odd shape. While it’s not fun to drive even with its ‘Gran Turista’ badge, it’s also not a hatchback but is kind of. It falls into a hybrid variant between a 7Series sedan and 5 Series Touring. The reason why it still sticks around is the fact that the 6 Series GT is still very influential in some markets despite its design.

The BMW 6 Series GT “appeals strongly in certain regions but doesn’t appeal at all in others”, says Adrian van Hooydonk, the BMW Design Boss.

There isn’t really a vast attraction for a car like the 6 Series GT. Thus, it’s easy to believe the last part of what he said. The first part of what he said was actually surprising to be true, considering that it’s a very specific area of niche. However, despite my astonishment, some markets really do love it.

This particular series is well-known in China, according to Autocar. We market it here, except the 5 Series Touring, thus we also know that it’s quite famous in the US. Choosing the 5 Series Touring rather than the 6 Series would be the choice of most countries with rational people. However, it’s not the case for China and the US.

One of the car enthusiasts remembered how driving a 6er felt so different from a BMW. Yes, the car is welcoming and comfortable to ride, along with its long list of practical features. However, BMW is not about all those. Instead of a BMW, the said series would make a charming Mercedes-Benz. The 6er failed to show a BMW that is petite, athletic and pleasurable to drive. Instead, it showcased a high-class style of a boat that can carry loads of luggage for five people.
