Krueger Plans to Produce 3 million Vehicles by 2020

In a very ambitious plan, BMW CEO Harald Krueger plans to raise its annual production capacity to produce 3 million vehicles by 2020. This translates to a about 27 percent in produce from where the German automaker is right now.

Part of this plan is to build the BMW X5 offroader in China. This bit of information was confirmed by a source through German daily Handelsblatt.

Last year, BMW Group was able to build 2.37 million vehicles, including MINI and Rolls-Royce cars. To hit the goal, Krueger will need to double the production capacity in China to 600,000 cars.

The North American plants in Spartanburg and San Luis Potosi, Mexico, will also play a part in the plan. They will be pushed to produce 750,000 vehicles to their max capacity, as compared to the 410,000 cars they are producing as of current.

Handelsblatt said that BMW is “going on the offensive” and this will be the message on Thursday from CEO Harald Krueger at BMW’s annual shareholder meeting, as the automaker seeks to win back the top spot in the premium automaker segment.
