A nice follow up to the official photos and videos released by BMW would be this up close and personal listen to its exhaust sound. Autobild got the rare chance of taking a footage of the entire car, including interior and exterior, which allows us to appreciate its design a bit more.
The video allows us to go up close and personal with the kidney grilles and we discover that for the first time, BMW has actually made it with one grille surround. The production model will likely have a smaller grilles but the current design would probably look good with the grilles made smaller. Taking a closer look at the squinty headlights, we can see the little blue “X’s†in the video. The taillights have very interesting geometry that creates new shapes.
The interior footage is an interesting part of this video. We get to see the controls up close and see the Swarovski glass-covered iDrive rotary dial and new shift lever. These are actually exciting pieces as they are the first new variants of each for BMW in awhile. The starter button beside the shift lever also looks sportier and more premium. We also get to see the fully-digital instrument display that BMW is using for the first time, with impressive features and crisp graphics.
The video’s best part is no other than taking a listen at the exhaust note of the BMW 8 Series Concept. It has an incredibly deep and burbly sound, almost like a hairy-chested growl followed by bassy barks that make it sound powerful.
The engine details have not been revealed but we’ll know more in the following days.
