Video: Mercedes SLC Drops on a BMW E46 3 Series

In the 1970s and 1980s, the Mercedes-Benz SLC was an icon. People loved the car then because it was stylish, had really wide hips, and people haven’t really seen anything quite like it. It is the kind of car that one would usually try to preserve and take care of for the longest time. However, the vintage beauty of the car is wasted as it drops on a BMW E46 3 Series, another design icon, on this video:

We usually see cars being pitted against one another in drag races or actual track races. This is the first time we’ve seen a head to head and intended collision. One car literally drops on top of the other.

In Autoblog’s CarBoom episode, they brought along a 1980s US-spec Mercedes-Benz SLC and a BMW E46 3 Series to the Mojave Desert. They also used 20 mattresses and a 70-ton crane to simply test if a car dropped from 120 feet could survive the fall if it landed on said mattresses.

If that wasn’t crazy enough. They proceeded to do the final showdown where they test out what happens if you drop a 3,500 lbs old Mercedes on top of an E46 3 Series. Watching it is a bit disturbing because its hard to comprehend the logic of doing this test.

Overall, the BMW still took it like a champ but there’s nothing we can do to prevent gravity from breaking it into pieces.
