MINI’s efforts for a big design leap led by Anders Warming

Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group’s VP of Design,  has revealed to Autocar, a UK publication, that the next generation MINI will be a “bigger design leap than the last one”.

This will be done through the lead of Anders Warming, new chief designer at MINI. The next generation MINI will be designed by Warming on a clean slate with a completely new interior and exterior design. Van Hooydonk says: “we have to balance that against the fact that it is the brand’s core model, like the 3, 5 and 7-series rolled into one.”

Gert Volker Hildebrand led the MINI design studio for a fruitful 10 years. Now, as he hands over the position to Anders Warming at the end of 2010, the MINI brand will grow and will take on new design languages. Anders Warming previously headed the Exterior Design department at BMW.

The BMW Z4, BMW 5 Series and the BMW Concept 6 Series Coupé are just two of the vehicles that he helped design. Based on the previous designs that Warming has made for BMW, it looks like an exciting future for MINI design.
