As BMW Motorsport is hard at work with the development of the new BMW M4 DTM, it has been spotted doing first tests Portimao, south of Portugal. There are many changes still to be made due to strict technical regulations and a lot of these will apply to car’s aerodynamics.
This particular testing will allow BMW Motorsport to evaluate if the new racing car and its parts are up to the standard. Learnings form this test will allow them to gather valuable data and do the necessary adjustments.
The weather conditions were good and all three manufacturers represented in the DTM were taking turns to track test the car. BMW Team RMG, with reigning champion Marco Wittmann (GER) and his new team-mate Augusto Farfus (BRA), were present to push the car to the limit.
Wittmann said: “We are very happy with the test. It was very interesting to take to the track with the new BMW M4 DTM for the first time. Our findings will be very important for the development work ahead. It is always fun to drive a car for the first time in the development phase, and to discover what effect any innovations may have on the track. I think the greater power and new tyres will make for more action and exciting races.â€
