No BMW M2 GTS Model in the Pipeline?

Rumors of a possible BMW M2 GTS has been going on for months now. BMW has never confirmed that this a part of their plans but people were really excited at this possibility. CarThrottle finally puts an end to all the speculations. In an interview at a recent event, they have confirmed with BMW officials that this is not a part of the premium automaker’s plans.

BMW M2 GTS

BMW UK representatives said that even if they are very thankful for the success of the BMW M4 GTS in the market and the great response, the company has no plans to create a similar derivative of the BMW M2.

While this may come from the BMW executives themselves, take it with a grain of salt. It may be too early to tell yet. Oftentimes, BMW does not announce their plans on the early stages of planning. It is especially a bad time to do that now that the BMW M2 is just launching and making waves in the market. One at a time. Good strategy.

Furthermore, the officials said that the BMW M2 is already a full M car and a very affordable one. Having a GTS version may not be necessary, given the way this car performs. It was also make is considerably expensive, which is against the market positioning of the M2. As an example, the BMWM4 GTS is almost worth twice the M4. However, it was so good that all 700 models have sold out in an instant. This proves that people are willing to pay twice as much just to get a GTS version of an M car. If BMW decides to have an M2 GTS in the future, it will surely sell out in a matter of seconds.
