The current BMW X5 is doing really well in the segment but the German automaker is already working on the next. That’s simply how it is in the car manufacturing industry. Before the current model completely ages, the next iteration is in the works and it will have a plug-in hybrid variant. Said hybrid variant which we can call BMW X5 xDrive40e (for now) has been spotted doing test rounds in the wild see photos below:
The “Hybrid Test Vehicle†plaques is a clear giveaway that this is a plug-in hybrid model. It is likely to be powered by BMW’s new B48 2.0 liter turbo-four paired with an electric motor, but we don’t know yet for sure. If it churns about 370 hp, which is more than the upcoming X5 xDrive40i, we’d be really happy.
There are no visible design details in the prototype spotted because of the heavy camouflage. It seems to have a bit of a more rounded Hofmeister Kink, larger and angular headlights, and super large kidney grilles.
Stay tuned for more sightings in the near future!
