The BMW i8 is still BMW’s current technological flagship. This mid-engine hybrid supercar is none like we’ve ever seen before. It seems like one of those concept cars BMW makes except this beauty actually made it to production. During its launch, it impressed a lot of people not only with its looks but also its capabilities. It is powered by a three-cylinder hybrid but delivers power and ultimate driving pleasure. However, years had passed since it first launched and people are no longer that excited of the car as it used to be. People are longing to see a new and improved model, just like the Safety car. The answer may be coming in 2018.
In these spy photos, a 2018 BMW i8 is spied and it looks like it has taken a lot of design cues from the BMW i8 Safety Car. It was seen driving around the streets of Munich and it looked very similar to the safety car that we’ve seen in the past weeks.
From these photos alone, we can see that the suspension is certainly lower than a standard BMW i8. The wheels and brakes looks identical to what the BMW i8 Safety Car has. The Safety Car’s vented CFRP panel also replaces the rear glass.
If this is the direction that BMW is going for, its gotta be good. The BMW i8 Safety Car has some performance upgrades, an added boost of power, and the ability to wireless charge and some chassis tweaks as well, including new upper front wishbones and Bilstein suspension. The 2018 BMW i8 may not have these upgrades but we sure hope it does.
