Even if diesels have not been extremely popular in the US for quite some time, BMW says the demand is still there and they will continue to supply diesels to the market. BMW actually feels that there is a good enough demand to still supply diesel cars in America.
In an interview with Car and Driver, BMW’s Global Head of Diesel-Engine Development said: “For passenger cars, if there is enough customer demand we will offer it,†said Steinparzer, “because technically, the solution to meet regulatory demands, we have it.â€
The recent fiasco that involved a Volkswagen diesel in America hurt the reputation of diesel cars from Germany. The regulations have been stricter but so far, BMW has always passed the standards with flying colors. Understandably, demand will decrease due to the lack of trust in the market. However, BMW is confident that the quality of their diesels will speak for itself.
BMW will actually be selling three crude-oil models in 2017: BMW 328d, BMW X3 xDrive28d and the BMW X5 xDrive35d. Who knows, with two of the three cars on this list making a comeback, America may even get other more amazing diesel units in the future.
