Spy Photos: BMW Z4 testing laps at Nurburgring

As a product of a collaboration between BMW and Toyota, the expectations for the upcoming Z4 is quite high. It is the first time that such a partnership was forged because it was not normal for rival brands to work together. Well, technically, BMW and Toyota are not rivals in the premium car segment, but they still compete for sales in the market. Toyota will be using the partnership to develop their Toyota Supra too, so the benefit is mutual. Take a look at these spy photos form Nurburgring where the Z4 was seen doing testing laps:

In the video from Autoblog, the upcoming BMW Z4 was doing some calm laps and there was no sound audible from the exhausts due to the narration. However, it was still seen kicking the tail out a little bit on corner exit which indicated that this may be the Z4 M40i.

The car also has dual tail pipes positioned on each side of the rear bumper. This means it has the bigger I6 engine, and not the four-cylinder ones that usually has two tail pipes side-by-side on the left side of the bumper. That’s another tell-tale sign that this is probably a Z4 M40i.

It is also not the six-cylinder engine because of the tail pipe positioning. Thus, it is highly likely the new B58 turbocharged I6 engine with sportier suspension bits, better brakes and great body work. We’re taking a lot of context clues here but please stay tuned for more testing laps. We’ll know more details in the next months.
