Now that everything about the BMW M4 has been revealed, polarized opinions keep coming from enthusiasts. And the main topic? The controversial new grille. Fans of the luxury carmaker have been vocal about how terrible it looks. Nevertheless, the new BMW M4 offers more than its new grille – and we might just love it.
Despite the funky look of the new BMW M4, overall it is rather a very excellent car. Under the hood, it packs a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged I6. Significantly, M division developed this engine based on the best six-cylinder engines ever made. It generates a powerful 510 horsepower at its peak and a minimum of 473 horsepower. Certainly, the new BMW M4 offers a high-speed drive.
Also, the standard M4 gets a three-pedal manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. These specs adding more fun for the 473 bhp of the standard version. The M4 Competition weighs 4,000 lbs, which is really not ideal for a sports car. But still, with a powerful engine and strong chassis, the weight may not be a real issue. Further, the combination of its drivetrain and transmission is too good to be overlooked.
The BMW M4 runs in a manual, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car; a combination that is now disappearing. For example, Ford has announced that the Shelby GT350 will no longer be available. Even though it was a great sports car, Ford decided to stop its production. Aside from the GT350, there’s only Camaro SS and BMW M4 on the list. Other sports cars now are either automatic or all-wheel-drive or both. Not that they lack anything but they spoil the real experience of driving a sports car.
So the new BMW M4 offers not just its new grille, rather it lines up as the only premium sports car in its segment. And for this reason, we should really be grateful that the M4 is in our midst – despite its grille.
