Spotted: New Toyota Supra at BMW M Test Center

BMW has teamed up with Toyota to create a sports car platform that both automakers can use to make their own. This partnership has been going on for years now and people are already very excited to see the result of their research and development. To prove how close the cooperation is between the two giant automakers, here is a sighting of a Toyota Supra at the BMW M Test Center in Nurburgring.

The partnership will be beneficial for the future plans of both BMW and Toyota. BMW plans to build a BMW Z4 successor out of this partnership. No details have been revealed yet but we know that the BMW Z4 successor will still be called the Z4. The chassis designation used for it will be G29. The Toyota Supra will also be built under the chassis code G29. BMW has also decided to change the folding metal roof of the Z4 to a soft top that’s lighter and more traditional. The Toyota Supra will sit above GT86 model in the automaker’s line-up.

The design will generally be different but they will have the same technologies under their skin. The sports cars will have the same running gear, same BMW petrol engine driving the rear wheels, and same Toyota hybrid electric motors at the front that will function with regenerative braking and stored in a lithium ion battery. Both brands will be offering a plug-in hybrid model.

BMW and Toyota are both expected to debut the two sports cars in 2017.
