Unveiling of BMW F90 M5 will happen this month

We’ve seen heavily camouflaged prototypes of the new BMW F90 M5 but the unveiling will happen very soon. In fact, it will be this month! Sources say that the new F90 M5 will be in two week’s time and we couldn’t be more excited. The world premiere will then happen at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

The new M5 will likely churn around 600 PS (441 kw) and it drops the 7-Speed Double Clutch Transmission in favor of an eight-speed M Automatic. The the six-speed manual from the F10 M5 is now obsolete. The new M5 will also sprint to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds with the Launch Control function activated.

For the first time ever, the M5 sporty sedan will have an M xDrive all-wheel configuration available for customers to choose. The M xDrive system brings only the front wheels into play when the rear wheels aren’t able to transmit any more power to the road and additional tractive force is required. The driver can now choose from five different configurations based on combinations of the DSC modes (DSC on, MDM, DSC off) and M xDrive modes (4WD, 4WD Sport, 2WD).

The new M5 will have the same individual settings as the current generation M5. This is particularly true for its steering, engine, suspension and gearbox shift speed. This active control element is part of the M xDrive system’s functionality and its locking effect can be varied between zero and 100%, as the situation demands. With DSC deactivated, there is a choice of three modes (4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD). On startup it defaults to DSC on and full all-wheel drive.
