Video: BMW E36 M3 Power Loss Over 20 Years

Nothing in the world lasts forever, so the BMW E36 M3 is no exception. All the cars lose some of their power over years. We can look at it like at getting old, and no live being or an object can escape it.

Car Throttle’s Alex wanted to know how did the E36 M3 age. He took out his 20-year old on a dyno. See the video above to see just how much HP the car has lost over the years.

What he found out is that the car actually lost a significant amount of power – 42 HP. Dyno test has shown 279 HP, while the brand new car had 321 HP in 1997. What’s confusing is that the engine components seemed alright to the dyno technician, so it’s not quite clear why the power is lost.

Alex also found out that the time his car needs to go from 0 to 100 km/h has increased from 5.5 to 5.9 seconds. That’s not so bad, and considering the available upgrades, he’s able to easily make the car as powerful as it once was.
