Can video game racing simulation be comparable to racing on track? Gran Turismo and other games rank their global top players and they claim that the top ones can actually be good enough to race in the real world. A Scotland-based racing team called ProRace UK seems to agree. A 20 year video gamer has just been signed as their newest driver. He is now a professional BMW E36 3 Series racer.

The lucky person is Josh Martin. Since his teenage years, spends approximately 8 hours a day playing Assetto Corsa. When he’s not playing, he is a psychology student. “I started playing with friends when I was 11 or 12 and I turned out to be really good at it. I thought I needed to start taking things more seriously.” At his gaming station at home, he has the full F1-style racing wheel, pedal set and everything else needed to play the game like it was real.

Martin is an E-sports athlete and is one of the highest ranked players in the world. He has won 15 championships in the game and 500 races. He also holds 17 world records in the game. These stats are impressive in the gaming world, but can these skills be applicable on the actual track?

Martin is determined to learn and really become a professional racer and remove all doubts on his skill. “The next thing is getting in training to build the muscles in my neck as the one thing the game doesn’t replicate is the G-forces you experience.”

“There will be a lot of pressure on me given where I’ve come from but I’m looking forward to it.” Let us see how Martin handles the real world of racing when he takes to his ProRace UK BMW E36 3 Series.
