[Video] Get behind the wheel of the 30-year old BMW 325is

The guys from Cars.co.za in South Africa took a trip to the nostalgia road. It began when they took a closer look at two of the most iconic cars of South Africa from the late 1980s, early 1990s – the BMW 325is and the Opel Kadett Superboss. Both vehicles have a history of trading blows in the local racing championships while exhibiting incredible performance, despite the vast difference with their machines. The Kadett drives in a front-drive with turbocharged while the Bimmer comes in a rear-drive and is naturally aspirated. Justifying each distinct fanbases.

You can easily tell the greatness of these vehicles as they both offer power, performance, and even looks. But how do they keep up with the modern era? Would the BMW 325is Evo 1 be as rewarding on the track as one would hope? In this video, we get to witness the true iconic color of the BMW 325is.

In contrast to modern-day cars, older beauties like the E30 3 Series sometimes feel slow, badly slow in some cases. As modern engines now come turbocharged for most of the time, the key difference lies in the torque and horsepower in some cases. Some engines need to be revved really great to obtain the best performance, like the S14 engine unit. Meanwhile, newer units make all their resources available from down low. This explains why older cars with naturally aspirated mills feel slower.

Nonetheless, you cannot deny some of its advantages like the instant throttle response or the sound. In any case, older cars don’t fit everyone and it might feel a bit weird for younger drivers. It’s still worth the try though, as these cars have proven how things used to be back then.
