Video: Two Motorcycles vs the BMW M2

The BMW M2 is a superstar in the automotive world because of how it delivers supercar performance that one would not normally expect in a sleek two-door coupe. There are many different ways to test how good the M2 is, but this one is pretty unique: it races with two high-performance motorcycles from BMW as well. Same makers, who will win?

Superbikes are generally faster than supercars because they are more agile and can be packed with more speed. The motorcycles used here are the BMW S1000 RR and the S1000 RR. They hold a reputation and they can easily outpace the fastest cars on the road. Carwow decided still that this an interesting match up.

With 199 hp delivered by a 1.0 liter engine and a curb weight of just 204 kg, the BMW S1000 RR has an amazing power-to-weight ratio of 990 hp/ tonne. On the other hand, the BMW M2 delivers 365 hp from its 3.0 liter turbocharged I6 engine and weighs 1,595 kg. That translates to 229 hp/tonne. The difference is quite huge and it showed in the race. In the beginning of the race, the BMW M2 actually takes the lead. However, when the motorcyle warmed up, it just left the M2 behind.

The K1600 is powered by a 1.6 liter 158 hp engine and a power-to-weight ratio of 454 hp/tonne. For this bike, Carwow decided to add a passenger to make it fairer. The results were very close then. The BMW M2 was able to catch up and it looked like a tie.
