Winter testing continues for the upcoming BMW Z4 built under the internal codename G29. This car will compete against the Porsche 718 Boxter and others on the same segment. This rigorous testing is required to ensure it is the best among the best. Check out this winter testing activity in Sweden.
The video shows a prototype with the folding hard-top replaced by a lighter fabric roof. Many components of the new Z4 is derived from the current 3 Series, including the chassis components, rear axle and five-link rear suspension from the M3/M4.
The upcoming Z4 will use a new platform that has been designed to support petrol-electric hybrid power and four-wheel drive. Weight estimate is around 1400kg in a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder entry-level guise.
BMW will also be using their newest engines on the new Z4. Expect to see the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powerplant, the B48, delivering around 248bhp in the Z4 sDrive30i, and a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit, the B58, in the Z4 M40i M Performance. Both Z4 models will come with standard rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
The new BMW Z4 will be unveiled this year.
