[World Premiere] 2017 BMW 530e iPerformance

The fourth addition to BMW’s iPerformance vehicle lineup finally made its world premiere! Check out the new BMW 530e iPerformance which is also probably the best in the lineup so far. It is packed with the German automaker’s latest suite of luxury technologies, autonomous driving aids, and the latest eDrive plug-in powertrain.

The BMW 530e iPerformance is powered by a 2.0 liter TwinPower turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which develops 180 hp and 215 lb-ft of torque. That engine is paired with an electric motor that makes 95 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Combined, they develop 248 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the BMW 530e iPerformance is capable of 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds. It is also capable of driving in full electric mode.

The battery pack is a 9.2 kWh battery which is stored under the rear seat so that the car has a flat-load trunk floor. Using a 120V outlet, such as the Occasional Use Cable, the 530e’s battery is capable of fully charging in 7 hours. With the 3.6kW – 7.2 kW (16/32 A, 240 V) BMW Charging Station, the 530e’s battery can be charged in just under three hours. A fully charged battery allows the 530e to drive in full electric mode at speeds up to 87 mph (in MAX eDrive mode) or 56 mph (AUTO eDrive mode, which utilizes both powertrains as best as possible). It features the same plug-in hybrid modes as all of the other BMW iPerformance vehicles, such as the 740e and 330e.

The features above allows the new BMW 530e to be the first BMW plug-in hybrid to make a world premiere that is capable of powering just the rear wheels or all four wheels.

Thanks to the entire suite of BMW’s autonomous driving aids, the 530e is capable of driving itself up to some point. it uses the Blind Spot Detection System, Active Lane Keeping Assistant and Side Collision Avoidance systems, to keep it functioning independently on the road. The Traffic Jam Assist also helps in maneuver in traffic.
