In an eventful qualifying session at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Dries Vanthoor showcased remarkable performance, securing the sixth position on the grid for the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8. Initially exceeding expectations with the fastest lap on Wednesday, Vanthoor faced a setback during the Hyperpole on Thursday, sliding into the tyre barriers. Despite this, he ensured a solid starting position alongside teammates Raffaele Marciello and Marco Wittmann.
While the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 advanced to Hyperpole, the #20 BMW M Hybrid V8 Art Car will start from 16th place. In the LMGT3 category, the #46 BMW M4 GT3 and #31 BMW M4 GT3 secured 12th and 15th positions, respectively.
The legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans kicks off on Saturday at 16:00 CEST, preceded by the iconic drivers’ parade in the city centre on Friday afternoon.
Overall, the team is pleased with the qualifying results despite the setback in the Hyperpole. The focus is now on the race, aiming to avoid mistakes and keep the cars on track. Both drivers and the team remain optimistic about their chances in the race, hoping for a strong finish and possibly a podium position. The stage is set for an exciting race at Le Mans, with BMW aiming for top positions across the board.
