BMW M Motorsport Poised for Title Fight at Indianapolis 8 Hour

The Indianapolis 8 Hour, set for October 5th, marks a critical showdown for the Intercontinental GT Challenge and the Fanatec GT World Challenge America. BMW M Motorsport stands on the brink of clinching titles in both series, with Team WRT leading the charge. Two BMW M4 GT3s, piloted by six BMW M works drivers, aim to secure driver and manufacturer titles. One of these vehicles will feature Shell’s Premium Technology Partner branding, while Ansys joins for the first time as an Official Partner, underscoring its significant role in BMW’s racing efforts.

Team WRT, the defending champion, returns to Indianapolis with confidence. In the #31 BMW M4 GT3, Sheldon van der Linde, Dries Vanthoor, and Charles Weerts will unite again, hoping to replicate their successful performance from previous races like Bathurst and Spa. Weerts, currently second in the driver standings, is well-positioned to bid strongly for the title. BMW’s second car, driven by Augusto Farfus, Dan Harper, and Max Hesse, remains a formidable contender as they push to climb in both the driver and manufacturer standings.

The GT World Challenge America finale will also showcase five BMW M4 GT3s, competing under the banners of ST Racing, Turner Motorsport, and other customer teams. Notable drivers like Neil Verhagen, Robby Foley, and Samantha Tan will battle for the Pro-Am class title. Additionally, BMW M works drivers Philipp Eng, Connor De Phillippi, and Nick Yelloly will reinforce the North American teams in their pursuit of victory.

BMW M Motorsport’s collaboration with Ansys, a leader in simulation software, gives its engineering capabilities an extra edge. Ansys helps BMW engineers refine race strategies and optimise vehicle performance through advanced simulations, giving the team confidence as they prepare for the season’s final push. With such a robust partnership and a star-studded driver lineup, BMW M Motorsport is poised to leave its mark at Indianapolis again.
