BMW M2 CS Racing media car honors Nordschleife History

Since the premiere performance of the endurance legendary and the first sweeping victory for BMW in the ‘Green Hell’, this year marked the 50 years for the Nürburgring 24 Hours (GER) and BMW M Motorsport. Even though a major anniversary event is not possible in these trying times, its joint anniversary highlights the Nordschleife history. The BMW M Motorsport featured a special ensemble for a BMW M2 CS Racing media car. The 19 sweeping victories of BMW also carried the names of every driver who became part of it.

On its 50th anniversary, the intersection of  Nürburgring 24 Hours’ history and future have taken place. The racing car’s design awakens memories of every previous victory of the BMW. As a tribute to the first champion car in 1970, the BMW M2 CS Racing media car showcases a blue and white ensemble. The BMW M Motorsport design elements also highlight the modernistic look found on the bonnet. It’s one of the BMW M Customer Racing cars that will undertake BMW activities on the Nordschleife. It will join the BMW M4 GT4 and the BMW M4 GT3 that is still in its test phase. The BMW M2 CS Racing media car drivers are Dirk Adorf (GER) and Tom Coronel (NED). Journalists Niki Schelle (GER) and Christian Gebhardt (GER) will also join them.

Adorf gave a meaningful message with how he becomes part of the anniversary celebration of both the first BMW victory and the 24-hour race. He states how it is the BMW that truly shaped the event more than how others have done it over the past decades. Competing in the BMW M2 CS Racing “with a high-quality quartet” makes him ecstatic and proud. He also voices out the unfortunate circumstance that they could not perform in front of their fans. However, he is also hopeful that this new setup will gather a greater interest for many people through the media.

Joachim Stuck as a Legendary Racer who Claimed Several BMW Victories

The media car’s design details the 19 victories for BMW. It recounts the details from the first victory at the unveiling event in 1970 to the current win in 2010. Part of this great history was the acclaimed racing driver Hans-Joachim Stuck (GER). He won three times with BMW on the Nürburgring 24-hour race. Driving the BMW 2002 TI, Stuck won the inaugural race in 1970 side by side with Clemens Schickentanz (GER). In 1998, he drove the BMW 320d diesel car while also becoming a part of the crew that won the first overall victory on the Nordschleife. Jörg Müller, Dirk Müller (both GER), and Pedro Lamy (POR) join him at the champion step of the podium in 2004 after their victory with the BMW M3 GTR.

Stuck expresses how it feels extraordinary that he experienced a lot of victories on different eras of the 24-hour race and with BMW’s top vehicles. He recalls his first victory with the BMW 2002 TI and his win with the BMW M3 GTR. With no type of driver aid, Stuck emphasized that they were at the forefront with the BMW 2002 TI. It was “pure driving” and he considers it a significant milestone in his career. He ranked very highly on that race and was also his first big win.

He shared how he thought that the BMW was joking after telling him in 1998 that they wanted him to win the 24-hours race with a diesel car. However, it also led him to think that they could defeat the opponents considering its fuel consumption. At the race, they had to make fewer pit stops and they were not the fastest. Stuck also recalls how he enjoyed it the most with the BMW M3 GTR. “With its speed, all the technical driver aids and its reliability”, Stuck considered it as sensational while driving on the Nordschleife. For him, it was the best car he has ever driven at the racetrack.

Augusto Farfus comes back to win BMW’S 20th Victory with the BMW M6 GT3

In 2010, Augusto Farfus (BRA) became one of the drivers for the BMW M3 GT2’s victory. Claiming for a 20th overall win for BMW, Farfus comes back after a decade. This time, he will be driving the BMW M6 GT3. According to Farfus, his victory with the BMW M3 GT2 made him glad. He adds that it’s about time to add another victory to the list after one decade.

In the past, Farfus recalls how the BMW M3 GT2 was the newest car and has the fewest test kilometres underneath its belt. Today, the BMW M6 GT3 has showcased more kilometres test compared to all other GT3 cars. Farfus boasts how the latest car and BMW Team Schnitzer have prepared well and have performed every possible situation. He finishes his statement by promising that he and the BMW would give their best to bring home its 20th victory.
