The BMW Team RLL has yet again made a successful win by finishing second at the Vigrginia International Raceway. Thus, strengthening their stand at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this weekend. Crossing the line just behind the winner, #25 Motul BMW M8 GTE’s duo, Bruno Spengler and Connor de Phillippi, made their first podium finish.
This race was specifically significant for Bruno Spengler as his celebration came early a day before his 37th birthday on Sunday. For two hours and forty minutes, the racetrack was filled with so much thrill and action. It was heavily contested with an 85 laps race. As a result, the Corvette crossed the finish line first in the GTLM class, followed by a 3.5 seconds delay was the #25 BMW M8 GTE.
“I had to really focus as I entered the race with only dew laps practice. Connor (De Phillippi) did amazing and gettin in to my car, I knew what I wanted – bring home a podium finish. Although I found my rhythm, the competition was really not easy. I am pleased with our effort,” Bruno stated after the race.
Likewise, it was a special event for Bill Auberlen- winning in the GTD class. Together with his teammate Robby Foley, who were both behind the #96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3.
Garnering his 61st IMSA victory, Auberlen now moves to the top of the standings in all-time IMSA victories. Also, this race snatched him a record for his 443rd race start in a BMW. Meanwhile, #24 racer, which is the second BMW M8 GTE race car, had a technical issue early on. Drivers John Edwards and Jesse Krohn had to withdraw after just 19 laps.
