Sources say that the long-time rumored BMW Z2 may arrive in late 2016 or late 2017. According to Car and Driver, the 2017 BMW Z2 will carry a few unique features found in the Z4 but at its core is a different product. First, the Z2 is a front-wheel-drive vehicle, and second, it will feature a soft top versus the hardtop found in the current roadster. The Z2 is said to have a wider appeal and aims to bring a new generation of buyers to the brand. One that doesn’t necessarily pick a car based on the drivetrain.
The 2017 BMW Z2 will share the platform of the new MINI Hardtop and will be light weight. The Z2 may be offered with a number of three- and four-cylinder engines from BMW’s modular engine architecture. The powerplants will produce anywhere from 160 to 230 horsepower.
