The 2021 BMW 128ti paving the way for a front-wheel-drive hot hatch when it debuts in November this year. Significantly, it sits between the 181hp 120i and the 302 hp M135i xDrive and competes directly with the VW Golf GTI. It weighs 80 kg lighter with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo. And this engine produces a generous 265 hp and 400 Nm of torque. In addition, the mechanical limited-slip differential makes the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 6.2 seconds possible. However, this new BMW 1 Series model only offers the eight-speed automatic.
Andreas Stumm, the Project Manager Driving Dynamics said that they wanted the car to be as active as possible. Moreover, they wanted it to be even more neutral than the other 1 Series. Their goal was to make a fun country road car that gives direct feedback and enjoyment to the driver.
The new 2021 BMW 128ti comes with a tuned M Sport springs with a 10mm lowering. Also, it includes revised elastokinematics on the front axle and a new carrier axle at the rear. BMW also adjusted the steering for not overly direct feedback. Further, ensuring better handling, standard M Sport brakes, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires are also added.
On the tack, the 128ti is very stable. And all thanks to the gas pedal input and the M Sport brakes. Also, the undeniable performance of the eight-speed Steptronic makes it the powerful drive. Also, the 1,520 kilo-heavy 128ti still appears light and dynamic.
Combining comfort and sportiness, the new BMW 128ti drives more precisely and actively. All while maintaining that neutral character and charm. Nevertheless, the upgrades on the chassis and driving dynamics show BMW’s seriousness in making this model. Therefore, the BMW 128ti paving the way for a hot hatch on the front-wheel-drive is exemplary.
