2021 BMW 320e PHEV spoils everyone on BMW.nl appearance

It seems like the 2021 BMW 320e gets a spoiler before its official announcement. Up on the online configurator of BMW.nl appears to be the new plug-in hybrid of the G20 3 Series generation. While it shows the 320e’s Luxury Line, customers can opt to add some M Performance Parts to the reliable hybrid. Furthermore, choices are more varied as the 320e will be available in both sedan and Touring guise.

The 320e drives power from the B48 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, in a throttled version, similar to the 330e. Mated to the electric motor, it delivers a total output not exceeding to 200 HP. Otherwise, it brings the 320e PHEV models into the 330e territory.

The pure-electric driving range, though, is still unclear. One thing for sure is that it’s no different than what the 330e offers of around 50 kilometers on electric power. On a more exciting note, the 2310e Touring will be available in a rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, a popular model in Europe.

On conventional household sockets, you can already charge all the new BMW PHEV using the standard charging cable. Within 4.2 hours, the completely discharged battery of a BMW 330e can acquire 80 percent of its total capacity. Meanwhile, for a 100% recharge, its estimate charging period is 5.7 hours. However, the BMW i Wallbox can help speed up charging operation to 2.4 and 3.4 hours respectively. The same applies to the 320e models as well.

As of today, BMW consists of a growing hybrid cars line-up. This includes the  330e, BMW 530e, 545e, 745e, X3 30e, X5 xDrive45e, and even MPVs using similar powertrains in the shape of the BMW 225xe Active Tourer.

“We aim to have 12 fully electric and plug-in hybrid models on the roads by the end of the year. Customers desire our plug-in hybrids because they can use them as their only vehicle,” said BMW CEO Oliver Zipse regarding the future hybrids in a recent meeting in Munich. He also added, “The 3 Series Touring will also be available as a plug-in hybrid variant next year.”

It looks like all we have to do now is just wait for the official statement and specs of the 2021 BMW 320e.
