In an interview with Christoph Fagschlunger, project manager for 7 Series G70, he stated that the 2023 BMW XM is the heaviest BMW car ever built. Weighing 2.7 metric tons, the new XM outweighs even the bulky i7 xDrive60.
The car weighs 5,952 pounds, in the same range as the Rolls-Royce Cullinan with its huge V12 engine. Moreover, the new BMW XM is enormous at 2.21 meters (87 inches) wide. Thus, it’s not surprising that it’s no Miata. The massive SUV is also a plug-in hybrid with a battery pack that has a capacity of roughly 25 kWh.
Even with the colossal size, the 2023 BMW XM is not the largest BMW SUV based on length. According to Autocar, the first true M car since the mid-engined M1 is one to two centimeters shorter than the X7. We can use the three-row Luxo barge as a reference. It measures a stately 5.15 meters (202.8 inches). So you can see the difference.
The lithium-ion battery pack comprises three different pieces positioned beneath the rear seats. This pack adds weight to an already large vehicle. Despite weighing nearly like the moon, it is a considerably lighter vehicle based on steering.
According to Auto Motor und Sport, it may achieve 168 mph (270 km/h) if equipped with an extra package. Drivetrain engineer, Johannes Franz, noted that the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint will take “certainly sub-five seconds.”
The XM will not feature a 2WD mode. But according to a German source, drivers will be able to disable the dynamic stability control (DSC) system. AMS also claims that the XM is more comfortable to drive than the X6 M.
The world debut will take place in the following months. And its production set will begin in December at the Spartanburg factory in South Carolina.
