In the first three months of 2016, BMW sold 5,128 units of the electric vehicle sub-division – models i3 and i8.
The numbers show that the sales for the first quarter of 2016 are almost 23% lower than at the same time last year.
In order to push the sales a bit more, BMW has announced an update – the i3 will get a new battery pack. With a larger battery, the i3 could go further on a single charge and the owners would need to charge it less often.
The upgrade won’t include a battery replacement. Instead, the i3 line will be extended into two additional models. One will be fully electric and feature the new battery, and the other one will be an REx version and have the same technology.
The new battery will probably last a range of around 190 km.
