Dr. Milan Nedeljković, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Production has given eleven new emergency vehicles to the Bavarian police. “Our Police officers’ every day work requires ultra-modern police cars,” said Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann, who delivered the vehicles. “So far, it only appears that we’ve made right decisions with our BMW vehicles. Hopefully, we get to see more technical innovations in the future, and more efficient and environmentally friendly mild hybrids. As these developments are important especially for police work in cities.”
With the production stoppage due to COVID-19, timely completion of the cars is something to be proud of, according to Nedeljković. “Since July, we have been in production of the mild-hybrid BMW 3 Series Touring. Propelled by a powerful starter generator with an additional battery at the Munich plant. We feel excited knowing that the Bavarian police are among the first customers.” The BMW 3 Series police vehicles will patrol around cities of Munich, Würzburg and Bayreuth in the future.
The BMW M developed the special equipment of the 3 Series models. Then, assembled and installed at the BMW Group plant in Munich. “Police, emergency doctors and fire brigade can choose from five special packages and 71 special equipment. Specifically designed based on the requirements of national and international authorities,” explained by plant manager Dr. Robert Engelhorn.
For example, plenty of space for special equipment such as radios are available. Other special equipment installed in the Munich plant are assembly signaling system, livery for the police and emergency doctor and fire-fighting vehicles. For additional safety, the cars also come with the typical police light bars, and the latest LED technology.
Munich plant produces up to five emergency vehicles every day for use by national and international authorities. Currently, the Bavarian police use a total of 3,000 BMW vehicles and 500 of which come from the BMW Group plant in Munich.
