BMW 1 Series ActiveE first production unit to roll out next week

The BMW 1 Series ActiveE will make its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011. The very first production unit will be rolling off the production lines as early as next week. BMW insider Scott27 reveals that BMW will soon accept applications for the pilot testing program that will begin this year.

So they could gather feedback quickly and more efficiently, BMW had set up a forum for future owners and the general public. Here is the internet address that the team behind the ActiveE project referred to: bmwactivatethefuture.com.

An iPhone app called “BMW EV Mobile Application” will also be introduced. This will allow non-electric drivers to make an informed decision on whether the BMW 1 Series Coupe ActiveE will be enough to satisfy their driving habits and requirements.

Based on the chassis of a BMW 1 Series Coupe, this vehicle features a newly developed electric drivetrain and a lithium-ion battery-packed developed in cooperation with SB-LiMotive. It can seat up to four passengers and has approximately seven cubic-feet of luggage space. The car accelerates from 0-60 mph in approximately 8.5 seconds. The maximum speed of the vehicle is electronically limited at around 90 mph.
