Reports say that Britain’s Watchdog has banned some BMW ads in the UK. These banned ads involved BMW Concept ActiveE electric cars ads that has a “100 percent joy, zero percent emissions†slogan.
Britain’s Watchdog explained that they banned BMW ads because they are misleading. The BMW Concept ActiveE electric car will produce zero carbon dioxide emissions when being driven, but charging the car’s battery with electricity will cause emissions. Thus, it is misleading to the public to say that it is 100% free of emissions. Aside from this, the ads breached Britain Watchdog’s rules on substantiation, truthfulness and environmental claims.
BMW says that their statement “zero carbon dioxide emissions when driving†explains exactly what the car is capable of. But the British ASA governance body said that they would still ban these ads as it might mislead people to believe that the car will not produce carbon emissions at all.
Britain’s Watchdog also criticized BMW’s claim that the latest BMW Z4 Roadster had low carbon emissions, when in fact, it was high compared to other car brands.
