Saab will be using BMW ‘s turbocharged 1.6 liter four-cylinder gasoline/petrol engine with stop-start technology in a model scheduled to be released in 2012. But Saab still wants to share more technology with BMW. This time, Saab is offering to share development costs on a new front-wheel drive (FWD) platform.

BMW has been vocal of their plans to create a new front-wheel drive system for both BMW and MINI vehicles. Saab is interested in that FWD platform and wants to share the development costs in exchange of using that technology in their upcoming 9-2 minicar model.
