BMW breaks ground on its second Chinese plant

BMW and its Chinese partner Brilliance had announced that they will be opening a second plant in China back in November 2009. This plant will be built in Shenyang located Northeast China and will cost around 560 million euros for the construction. BMW and Brilliance had just broken ground last week.

Their estimated time when the plant will be ready to produce 100,000 BMW units per year would be in early 2012. BMW says that this is just its minimum capacity. In fact, this new plant will produce seven times more than their first Chinese plant at a maximum of  300,000 units per year.

Being BMW’s fourth largest market, it is just logical to build a plant in China. Hopefully, the construction of this plant will help topple Audi from the top spot in China. BMW can match Audi’s production in China after this plant is finished. So Audi needs to beware.
