Needless to say, 2020 gave a big hurdle to the whole racing industry. So carmakers have looked for ways to adapt and maximize their operations. For BMW, investing in Sim racing became the answer. And even when things seem to return to normal, BMW continues to expand its SIM formats.
BMW has started to invest in SIM racing even before the pandemic happened. And until now, BMW continues to expand its SIM racing operations. The luxury carmaker announced new formats and schedules for the said racing. This includes the BMW SIM GT Cup, BMW SIM M2 CS Racing Cup, and BMW SIM Time Attack.
Winning these races allows sim racers to enter various platforms. For example, they may qualify for the iRacing, rFactor 2, and Assetto Corsa Competizione platforms. The BMW SIM Live 2021 will present the grand finals and the prize money. Various BMW Motorsport social media channels will stream these races live.
Rudolph Dittrich, head of BMW Motorsport Sim Racing, expressed his excitement for this project. He noted that they look forward to how the sim racing community will accept the new race formats. The team also hopes to attract top-class competitors. And to receive expert feedback on their race formats and cars. Dittrich also showed their desire to improve their Sim Racing over time.
BMW Motorsport Sim Racing already introduced the new BMW SIM Cup formats last month. And the team is excited to hold the spectacular events for the season and the grand finals. Accordingly, the first race will start on January 17th, in the BMW SIM GT Cup. The race will take place at a virtual Daytona track. And racers will compete behind the virtual wheel of the BMW M8 GTE. An attractive prize reward of 4,200 US dollars will surely invite lots of participants.
