BMW expects increase in share of Electromobility Market this year

BMW used an independent study to show that their share of the electromobility market is set to increase in 2019. Interesting statistics about the electromobility market were published by BMW in 2018, highlighting just how much is controlled by the BMW brand. This year, new numbers are in and BMW feels confident that their momentum will continue.

BMW is already the best selling brand of electrified cars since January 2019 in Germany. The data compiled in Munich shows that BMW accounts for about 20% of the market, compared to the 19% from last year. Volkswagen, on the other hand, lost 1%, dropping from 17% in November last year to 16% in February 2019. Third place goes to Smart, the Daimler-owned company that offers a really cheap EV choice for interested customers.

Looking at the numbers for the whole of Europe, BMW is still the best selling brand, accounting for 17% of all electrified car sales, followed by Volkswagen with 12% and Nissan with 11%. This is the same top 3 from the previous year.

On a global scale, Tesla is not the biggest seller of electrified cars. The Chinese company BYD (Build Your Dreams) claims the number 1 spot, boosted by sales in China. It claims 12% of all electrified cars sold worldwide in 2019 so far. Second place goes to Tesla with 10% while Beijing Auto comes in third with 9%. BMW just missed out on the podium with 8%.
