BMW i Motorsport: Reaching new heights for future technology

Munich. The highly-acclaimed Greentech Festival happened on 16th to 18th September 2020 was hosted by Kraftwerk Berlin (GER). Showcasing future technology and sustainability where BMW i Motorsport specifically had its own exhibition area. Including their most famous motorcars from the ABB FIA Formula E Championship – the BMW iFE.20 and BMW i drivetrain.

Greentech Festival visitors enjoyed their up close and personal look at both the car that has bagged three wins in the last Formula E season, headed by the BMW i Andretti Motorsport. Among the anticipated models in the exhibit was the high-performing BMW i drivetrain – Racing eDrive02.

The BMW Group has the BMW i FE.20 – a tech lab prepared just for future generations of electric vehicles. Meanwhile, BMW i Motorsport is setting new heights in Formula E with its technology transfer between motor racing and production development. Through the extreme application of this technology in Formula E, BMW i engineers continue studying and developing future production drivetrains.

The Greentech Festival caters a wide variety of fans and enthusiasts of different models and technologies. With the state-of-the-art Fanatec racing simulators, visitors get to enjoy the exhibit besides its major focus on “future technology”. As they got to experience what it’s like behind the BMW iFE.20 fully-electric race car, realistically. It was the same simulation Formula E drivers used to contend in the ‘ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge’. The the sim racing event that turned up amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Along with real racing events, the BMW Motorsport SIM Racing has now become an essential pillar of the BMW Motorsport programme; this is because of its closeness to reality with future-oriented technologies and concepts.

One of the highlights during the exhibition was the BMW i3 Urban Suite. As it showcases BMW Group’s vision for a mobility experience perfectly tailored to the individual needs of its passengers. Resulting to a total and complete redesign of the BMW i3, excluding the driver’s seat and dashboard. This gives the interior a relaxed atmosphere as if you’re in a boutique hotel.
