Car and Driver reports new details about the upcoming BMW i3 MegaCity electric vehicle. Rumor has it that the vehicle will produce around 150 PS (110 kW / 148 bhp) with a range of circa 257 km (160 miles) and a top speed of 160 km/h (100 mph). Each year, 40,000 units of this car will be manufactured at the BMW Leipzig plant.
To shed off weight, the i3 will use a lot of carbon-fiber especially in the passenger cell. The “LifeDrive architecture” also has an aluminum chassis. The car will also feature a rear-mounted electric motor. The batteries will be mounted under the floor of the vehicle to save space.
The BMW i3 MegaCity is expected to make its debut in 2013 under the umbrella of the new ‘i’ sub-brand.
