BMW India starts manufacturing in March

Looks like our earlier
report
about BMW Manufacturing in India was accurate enough. The Chennai
plant would start assembling the 3 and 5 series starting from next month and
would expect to churn out 1,000 units in 2007 and up to 1,700 by next year.

BMW sales in Asia had a rapid growth of 15.5% in the previous year to 109,848
units and is expected to reach it’s 150,000 goal by 2008. BMW management board
member Michael Ganal quoted that India was a difficult market but still expected
to gain due to demand and increasing income levels. 5,400 cars were sold in
India alone for 2006 and that number is expected to hit around 10,000 units
by 2012.
