BMW iX’s new Competitor in Jaguar J-Pace

As the BMW iX finally makes its official debut, it’ll have some tough rival straight out of the gate. For instance, there’s an aging but still range-topping Tesla Model X, Audi e-Tron, and Mustang Mach E to deal with. However, it will also gain the latest competitor—Jaguar J-Pace.

According to Auto Express, Jaguar is working on another electric SUV and is actually working on being a fully electric company. The next move in this process is the Jaguar J-Pace, a fully-electric SUV close in size to the current F-Pace SUV and bigger than the I-Pace electric vehicle. So that will make it massive than the BMW iX.

Although the J-Pace will be based on the modular, versatile architecture of Jaguar, one that will include both electrified and internal combustion powertrains, the J-Pace will be an all-electric model without the option of a piston engine. The Jaguar J-Pace will utilize a 100 kWh battery pack, according to this article. And should have a WLTP-rated range of about 300 miles. Its specifications are, therefore, almost the same as those of the BMW iX.

Expect the J-Pace style to be close to its smaller I-Pace sibling, which is a very positive idea. The I-Pace is a beautiful machine, with just enough futuristic charm and just enough of Jag’s familiar design aesthetic. It’s both sexy and powerful looking and one of the classiest EVs on the market. So expect the J-Pace to try to build on the style success of the I-Pace.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Jaguar J-Pace competes in the segment. The BMW iX will already be slightly behind the segment, with the Model X already having a better range for similar money. So when the J-Pace premieres, which will be long after the iX, it’s going to be even further behind. Still, we’re happy to hear that Jaguar is not only producing a new EV. But is aiming to make a complete switch to electrification.
