BMW M’s 50-years celebrations started at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Although the spotlight shine on the new touring, BMW M bosses teased another special car for this year.
Frank Van Meel, BMW M boss, and Timo Resch, VP of Marketing BMW M, introduced the BMW M3 Touring. But aside from this, they also teased that another special M model will arrive in 2022.
Specifically, Resch noted that the BMW M is preparing for a special M car this year. Of course, we did not expect the bosses to add more details. However, we believe that this is the rumored BMW 3.0 CLS.
First, the BMW 3.0 CSL is more likely to be based on the upcoming BMW M4 CSL. However, we do not expect it to have the same body as the M4 CSL. Instead, it will only adopt the structure and then build a new coach-built body. Streets say BMW might call this the BMW 3.0 CSL. Specifically, this will be a successor of the original 3.0 CSL released in the ‘70s.
What we cannot assume now are the exact power figures. Still, we expect it to be around 600 hp. It might also carry a modified S58 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine. And it might even come with a manual transmission. This means that the 3.0 CSL might arrive as a true performance car.
Also, we expect the BMW 3.0 CSL to be a very limited car. We can assume that only 50 of this special car will arrive. Of course, this will drive its price to the sky.
Regardless, we expect BMW M to tease the special car as we get close to the reveal date. But for now, we only have what the BMW M bosses teased us about. And of course the assumptions for the BMW 3.0 CSL.
