The limited edition BMW M3 CRT was introduced a few months ago at the BMW M Festival. Only 67 units of this Carbon Racing Technology vehicle will be produced by BMW. Due to its range of impressive performance upgrades, the vehicle is sold at a premium price of 130,000 euros in Germany. This vehicle is the first to utilize the new production process for CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) components that will also be used in the upcoming i3 and i8.
The M3 CRT is powered by a the same engine as the M3 GTS Coupe delivering 450 horsepower at 8,300 RPM and 324 lb-ft torque at 3,750 RPM. Top speed is limited to 180 mph and the carbon-fiber dressed M3 runs to 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds.
But all these specifications are meaningless without the actual performance numbers. To test how the BMW M3 CRT performs on track, Sports Auto, a German magazine, took the car to Hockenheim.
The result:Â the standard E90 M3 Sedan runs through a lap of Hockenheim in 1:14.6 minutes, the M3 CRT takes it in only 1:13.1 minutes with the same set of tires and distance.
