Rumors last week pointed to a possible M tuned 5 Series diesel model. The Detroit Bureau and Autoblog has published a report stating that this vehicle has been confirmed. There will indeed be a new diesel F10 tuned by BMW M to join the 5 Series family.
Even though it will be tuned by the M division, it will not be badged at M5. Instead, BMW is leaning towards the M550d, 550dM, 550dXM, or 550d xDrive M naming convention. These names may not sound as good and powerful as a simple “M5”, but BMW has already filed a trademark for the name “M550.”
This vehicle is expected to be powered by a triple turbo inline-6 cylinder diesel motor and will be all-wheel-drive only and is expected to hit between the 500-550hp mark and most likely introduced next year.
